Biotechnology and food security in developing countries.
The big challenge for agriculture over the next 20 years will be to produce enough food for the growing population of developing countries. In principle there are two possible routes for food production to levels that can meet the demand: The expansion of agricultural land and / or agricultural intensification. For these reasons, the contribution of biotechnology in the fight for food security in developing countries depend heavily on the ability to integrate biotechnology in the socio-economic reality of the country or region.
